Hair Removal: Know your Options
There may be a lot of options to get rid of hair on body and a better option for your hair moval needs may be right around the corner. We’ll take a look at some of the most popular hair removal methods and explore their “pros” and “cons” along the way.
The “pro” to shaving is easy: it’s simple, fast, and generally painless (unless you nick yourself!). It’s also fairly inexpensive to shave your legs, as razorblades can cost only $1 to $5 a piece and can last for 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on how frequently you shave.
The real downfall to shaving is that you have to do it almost every day. For a lot of women, if they shave in the morning, the hair will be back by evening. Shaving is by no means a permanent solution to hair removal, and having to shave every day can cause irritation of the skin, which usually results in those red unsightly “bumpies” that we work hard to get rid of.
Another popular method is the depilatory creams. These creams are great as they will dissolve your hair and the results last longer than if you were to shave. The creams may cost a bit more, and you do have to leave the creams on your skin for a certain amount of time to work, but overall women are willing to use these creams for a longer-lasting effect.
There are two downfalls to this product: the smell, and the fact that depilatory creams cannot be used all over the body. Every woman who has used a depilatory cream can tell you immediately what it smells like (not good), and you cannot use these creams on more sensitive areas of the body, such as the public area. These creams are great for the underarms, legs, and even the eyebrows.
We have all heard the horror stories about how much waxing hurts. While it is true that waxing can arguably be the most painful way to remove hair, it is one of the longest lasting. If you wax any part of your body, your hair should not return for 4 to 6 weeks (though the times may vary depending on your individual hair growth). Before you go for a waxing, take an Advil or two and get comfortable. After the first couple of times you go for a waxing, you will now what to expect and your body will begin to acclimate to the pain.
Threading is one of the oldest forms of hair removal, though it is only becoming increasingly popular in the Western world now. Threading is great for removing hair for up to 4 weeks at a time, though you have to make sure that you find a good threader to achieve the best results. Also be aware that threading often only exists for certain parts of the body, such as the face, and not others (such as the pubic area or the underarm area).
